The University was formed after the promulgation of THE WEST BENGAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY ACT, 2001, under West Bengal Act XV of 2000 passed by the West Bengal Legislature. The University started its academic programme, from July 16, 2001.
A Government of West Bengal initiative, MAKAUT serves as a Centre of Excellence in teaching and research in technology and management field. IIAS School of Management - Siliguri, as an affiliate college of MAKAUT offers full-time Honours programs in Hospitality Management & Business Administration.

Established in 1229, Université de Toulouse is one of the largest public universities in France with a highly sought-after degree in Tourism & Hospitality. IIAS has validation agreement and faculty exchange connections with the university.
A quality review committee, comprising academics from IIAS, Taylor’s & Toulouse, is established for quality assurance and moderation of the standards of the delivery provided to students at IIAS.
